Theresa Booker was hardly the first singer-songwriter to be inspired by His Royal Badness-but she was the most determined.

Minneapolis, 1982. Dozens of young bands, playing day and night in bars and clubs across the city, dream of being noticed by the musical genius Prince, revered as a guru and a powerbroker. But when Theresa and her band, Starchild, are offered the opportunity of a lifetime-to be taken in and mentored by their idol-they soon find that there's a dark side to fame and fortune that could turn their dream into a nightmare.

MPLS Sound is the ultimate love letter to the legendary Minneapolis funk-rock sound of the 1980s.

Being a hardcore Prince fan (and such melomaniac), reading this Trade was De Rigueur for me. Knew nothing about the creative team behind, but HUMANOIDS' publications usually engross my approval. Thus I started perusing a 4-hand story by Illidge and Tabu, written in a Hero's Journey mood. Once Theresa was exposed to the magic of PRN in the early 80's, she was determined to become a music star. Created a motley band named StarChild, captured The Minneapolis Genius™ attention and, as his protégée, Booker experienced the rising of The MPLS SOUND. Frankly, I liked the narrative tone. Fictionalized events fit in well with the Funk&Roll Golden Era. I mean REAL Characters and City settings, specially. Laxton and Shu develop an accurate approach when it comes to express the energy demanded by evolving and self-discovery (key in this crafted tale). Some great Splashes with a (obviously selected) Purple-focused palette. Mos Def, an enjoyable effort. 4get Not 2 Play Ur 💜🎵™SP🎧TIFY List while 📖‼
