Introduction by Harvey Kurtzman. Blackthorne's Comic-Strip Preserves reprints Bill Holman's beloved absurdist strip. A cross between the work of George Herriman and Will Elder, Smokey Stover presented the misadventures of a firefighter in a small town. But it was best known for its absurd humor, including oddball vehicles, bizarre household items, puns, background gags and ever-changing pictures on the walls, as well as the mysterious preponderance of the word "foo." Includes 103 strips (including the topper strip "Spooky") and 38 single-frame cartoons. Introduction; Smokey Stover.
