He joins the Army to fight in Vietnam as PFC Tom Cargill, while he attempts to solve a string of murders as Magicman. In Vietnam, Magicman battles Agent A-214, a diminutive Communist agent who disguises himself as an infant. Trying to solve a robbery performed by sorcery, Magicman travels to the past to ask Merlins advice.
