People once believed that when a person dies, a crow carries their soul to the land of the dead although sometimes, something so terrible happens that a sadness is carried with it and the soul cannot rest. In the midst of a rural land-rights struggle, federal conservation officer Iris Shaw is murdered in a bombing by a rag-tag band of right-wing activists.
