My idea of what this story was about changed significantly after the fist volume and, at first, I didn't know what to think of it. The story begins as one about revenge and immediately dived into some intense world building topics I was NOT prepared for, but then the story shifts where now it's not solely about revenge, but how to cope with yourself after your personal life choices and what to do with what's left of your humanity. It's a deep dive into the mind of trauma and anguish and how the world perceives you just trying to survive, and it's hollowing. It's subtly is so strong and leaves you helpless as you see the main character (mc) trudging through his life and how his life effects the world around him and its such a roller coaster of feelings and doesn't end how you expect or even in a way that makes you feel complete. That in itself speaks volumes about the story and I thought it was perfect! It left me with so much to process that I couldn't form my thoughts in a way that made sense! I just knew this series was something very impactful to me and I'm glad I read it. It's not for everyone and does not flow like a typical story would, were you have something that drives the story and is what motivates the mc along, rather you're just there for the ride. Take this read for what it is, and be open to the idea that not everything needs to be driven forward but rather taken in by the moment. Hope you get something from the read like I have!
