Plot
Why does an urbane and successful tour guide harbor in his bachelor digs an odd assortment of beasties such as a chihuahua, cat, rooster, canary, and owl? They are the survivors of a once-larger cast that populated the hilarious Gordo comic strip. At the onset, Gordo Lopez was a farmer and these animals were pets of his young nephew and ward, Pepito. Their ranks were soon swelled by a pig, a burro, and anything else that happened to flap, crawl, slide, or wiggle by. Pepito grew up and went off into the world, leaving the care of the critters to his good ol' Uncle Gordo. . . This warm and witty book is a showcase for the uniquely creative talents of Gus Arriola. It captures the spirit of Arriola's art, which is a masterful blend of humor, perception, and virtuosity.
