Plot

Taken completely off-guard by the sudden, violent, and very public re-emergence of Grendel, corrupt Pope Innocent XLII begins marshalling his political forces in an attempt to both capture the elusive Devil and prevent the inevitable public relations fallout that's sure to follow. The word "Inquisition" is in the air, and many are sure to suffer before all is said and done. Meanwhile, corporate investigator Orion Assante struggles to decipher what these new developments mean to the case he's building against the Church, and to worsen matters, loose cannon Pellon Cross -- a deadly Confederacy Of Police officer -- has decided to make Grendel his problem, too.
