Plot
Light Yagami is an ace student with great prospects - and he's bored out of his mind. But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a rogue Shinigami death god. Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil. Will Light's noble goal succeed, or will the Death Note turn into the very thing he fights against?

El debate sobre si es justo matar criminales para crear un mundo mejor y qué efectos tiene hacer eso en quien lo decide es muy interesante. Lástima que dure literalmente un episodio y el resto del tomo sea Light intentando cargarse a policías. Ese podría ser un buen resumen de lo que me ha parecido este primer volumen de Death Note, todo podría ser interesante, si no fuese tan superficial. La construcción del mundo con todos los criminales siendo asesinos y violadores parece algo salido de la mente de un adolescente emo, así como el personaje de Light, que es más plano que una plancha (L es parecido, pero por lo menos es el arquetipo de Sherlock Holmes). Por si fuera poco, hay varios deus ex machina muy flojos en estas páginas para que no atrapen al prota enseguida. Pese a ello, también hay cosas que me han gustado: El dibujo de Obata; Soichiro Yagami; la hipocrisia de los agentes que persiguen a Kira, pero están a favor de la pena de muerte, y, a veces, ver cómo Light sale de apuros.
