Argumento

Japan is divided into north and south by war. Ezo" was placed under the control of the Union, and a tower of unbelievable height was built on the island. Junior high school students Hiroki and Takuya yearn to see the tower soaring above the foreign land, and plan to fly to the site in a plane they have built themselves. Hiroki tells Sayuri, whom he has a crush on, and they make a promise to go together, but one day she suddenly disappears, unable to fulfill her promise. This is the novelization of Makoto Shinkai's first feature-length animation.
